Sooner Birthday!

Today is one of my best friend, Jen's, husband's 38th birthday and besides heading over to their house after work for a Birthday BBQ, I am bringing him a Sooners Helmet Cake (or attempt at one anyways).

After a lot of trial and error...here's the end result.

Not perfect (wish I could have figure out how to make the face mask stay but the fondant I used kept falling so I had to just pipe it on) but not half bad right?

So to all you Sooner Nation Fans out there and CHAD.....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

May The Force Be With You....

Okay first off ... apologies for my month plus sabatical from blogging. I've had some internet issues and crazy things going on in life that prevented me from the blogging sphere.

All is good though, and fingers crossed my internet seems to be working, so bare with me as I make some baby steps until I get back into my groove.

Keeping it simple this first posting out, check out the Star Wars (more specifically the kick ass Stormtrooper Cake) I made for Jen's 5year old son Dylan's birthday this past Saturday.

Believe it or not it's really hard to find a flat picture of a Stormtrooper Helmet (everyone is so fancy these days and made 3D cakes using Fondant...which is a medium I still haven't embraced yet...can't get over the fact fondant taste like paste to me).
So I finally located a flat drawing on the internet, printed it out (after some help from a co-worker) and blew it up to the size I thought the cake would be sized. I then baked a doublebatched chocolate cake, cut out the drawing as a stencil, carved the cake into the helmet shape, then cut out all the black areas in the middle of the stencil, filled those in and then had to free hand the rest.

Yeah, I kinda kicked arse (I think) considering I am in no way an artist.

If Elmo Was Made of Cake

For Jen's 2yr old, Wyatt's, birthday party last Saturday I made him a simple Elmo Birthday cake with matching Elmo Cupcakes. Though the cake was easy to make, the decorating was a little more difficult because I ran out of pastry bags and had to decorate with plastic bags that kept bursting. Then to top it off, I ran out of cake boards so I flipped a cake pan upside down and used that instead (okay, I never claimed to be a professional...crafty yes, resourceful yes, professional...no way!)

Notice how red Elmo's body was (thanks to a little airbrushing)....the adults were saying it was toxic cake because the red got ALL OVER (and I mean ALL OVER) all the kids...kinda like a stain. Whatever, it washed off........................ Eventually.

And a close-up of an Elmo Cupcake. Thought they turned out pretty cute!

Wyatt was so excited when he saw his cake that he couldn't wait and had a cupcake a little earlier then the rest of the party. And he should have...it was his party and he did what he wanted to!

Happy Birthday again Wyatt!

Happy Birthday Wyatt!

Jen's little munchkin, Wyatt, just turned two today. Jen had her mom/stepfather, myself and the kids come over for pizza/pasta and cupcakes. Unfortunately Chad is still working in Vegas but will make it back in time for the birthday boy's blowout on Saturday (Elmo Theme...should be fun)!

Here's a cute pic the birthday boy and his mom (Jen)! Too cute for words!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WYATT!
